Leichte Sprache (Easy-to-Read Language) and Einfache Sprache are simplified registers of German designed to make information accessible to people with cognitive disabilities, learning difficulties, or limited German proficiency. This project takes any German web page and rewrites it into those registers — following the official rules from the Netzwerk Leichte Sprache.
Two ways to use it:
- Web app — paste any German URL (or share a page to it on mobile) and it fetches, extracts, and rewrites the article. Clean reading layout, read-aloud control, adjustable type size and spacing. No install, works on any browser or OS.
- Chrome extension — extracts the current page you’re reading and rewrites it in place, so login- or paywall-gated pages work too.
Leichte Sprache rules applied
- Short sentences (8–10 words max), one idea per sentence
- Simple, everyday vocabulary — no abbreviations or unexplained jargon
- Compound words separated with a Medio·punkt (Bundes·tag, Bürger·geld)
- No passive voice, no Genitiv, no Konjunktiv
- Clear structure with headings and lists
